A virgins guide to devMeetsThis is a guide for devMeet virgins everywhere.
devMeets are really neato things to go to but they can be a little...intimidating.

The first devMeet I attended was in the summer of 2006 and not only was I attending my first meet ever with dozens of people from the internet that I had never met before but I was also one of three organizing it!
Scary!!
I did not know what to expect or what to do or how it was all supposed to play out and I admit, I was nervous as hell.

So what happened? It was a smashing success. Even with rain, drama on the road with an impromptu caravan and driving all over Texas to get people it was a success. Phew! Fo

(in response to the tweeks we all want and appearing in dA lit: who we are in comments and posted in this journal because it is not a work of art, it is a complaint which on it's very best day  and journalism's very worst day might be an editorial but clearly does not meet those standards)
Unabridged and unabashed, because even the youngest in our community are cable of adult conversation   even when it entails cuss words:
I've slept on this for a few days...
from the first day to the last i was a gallery director for lit, we asked for a rich text editor. sta.sh writer is the farthest thing from what we had in mind.
how fucking hard is it to understand that my

For me, a can of soup sufficed--
I do not yet know how to cook
for one.

The TV movies, sitcoms, reality shows,
prime time dramas told me
to put down the pint of ice cream
open a bottle of white wine
bob my hair
find a younger man
strut like I own the world
pawn the ring
ignore the tan line
move on, up, out
but on the patio,
I light a joint, listen
for the suburb's muted murmur.

I packed your bag
kissed you good night, parted lips
to tell you again but
you took sound with you.
Dr Pepper Photo Op in NYC Wrap-Up!Over the weekend, $Heidi, $danlev, and I headed from Los Angeles to New York City for the Dr Pepper Photo Op.  ~reyjdesigns placed first in the How Do You Drink Dr Pepper? Contest and, as our winner, his work was recreated as a mural in Brooklyn.  We flew him and his cousin from Florida to NYC to unveil the masterpiece and invited all deviants to come celebrate along the way!
Our first day in New York was filled with interesting TSA agents, interviews at 39,000 feet, traffic jams, and delicious coffee from Dunkin' Donuts.  We briefly scoped out the mural, to prepare for the upcoming photo op, and were thrilled to see people walking by and admiring the work!
HalcyonI must not smile so much
when the sky is the color of decaying
snow without the crisp cold
to hold me hostage in reality.

They think it strange
for lips to be swollen
glowing pink and pretty
up turned despite the clamoring
rush, hurry, faster, farther
falling around me.

It should fade, vanish in the flux,
yet even as I bite the curve of my lips,
it will not yield.
