Do you think you're worth it?

Journal Entry: Wed Oct 7, 2009, 5:43 PM

Afraid of being called a whore?

You shouldn't be. October is self promotion month. What an odd concept! you say and yet...it shouldn't be.

Okay, a lot of you are young. High school or college, right? Minimal job experience. You've never had to put together a vita or resume or really sell yourself. Sure you might have had a few job interviews but you haven't started a career yet.

Don't fret. It's okay.

Now a lot of you have, you're more experienced, you might be published, you might have a nice resume put together. You probably know how to sell yourself.

That's awesome. It's something I want to see more of.

Self promotion is about more than just spamming links. It's about putting together a package and marketing yourself. It's about building your esteem and your confidence in your abilities and your WORTH.

This month I want you to take a page from `ATrue's book and promote YOURSELF.
Got a piece you really like and want to see as a DD? Send it to me!
But don't just put a link in a note, no, think about it and show me you believe in your work.
Take it as practice for publishing, for interviews, for applications, for life.

Who cares if I don't feature it? Care that you took the time to invest in yourself and explore what you really think about yourself.

If you put together an article or journal like " If I told you what this was about, would you read? " then link me. Let me know.

I want to know why I should read or view you.

Answers

I think this might be a fixture on my updates from now on because I realize that some times you want to ask me something but don't want me to know it's you. That's cool with me.
Don't be afraid! Ask anything and be specific! Remember, it's all anonymousousousous
Ask Here about anything you want at all...anything. absolutely.

:new: Added to the page is also a confessions box. Here you can tell me anything you want. It's a little like post secrets but can be used differently as well.
Seriously, you can tell me anything about anyone, about yourself, about me, about others. I don't care. Rip me a new one if you need.
I think sometimes we all just need to vent.
You can also choose whether or not I post it :)

Questions this go round:

1) When will your tenure as GD be over?
A: When I've finished what I set out to do and feel comfortable.

2) how do you set up one of these thingys?
A: Go to form spring and set up a new account with a page. then when you're composing the form you pick the long answer widget and fill out the details there

3)What's the point of Nanowrimo? Not what is Nanowrimo, but more like... why?
A: It's to see if you can do it. Really for some it's about breaking through a block or holding themselves to a schedule of writing every day. For some it's just to say they've written a novel.
Which is all well and good and I advocate people doing it and following through at least once. But once you've discovered that you CAN hold yourself to such a project it's time to branch out and write something you care about.
Unlike the other WriMo's, NaNo holds you to ONE project so it's not as much about practice as they are. FlaFicWriMo is a great exercise yearly because it challenges the prosers brevity and range which is something prosers miss out on often if they don't normally engage in flash fiction.

The merit in spending your time participating in these is up to the individual. If you feel like you'll get something out of participating, I totally encourage you to do it.
If not, well then don't worry about it :)

Life

Life has been incredible recently but a whirlwind of activity and a whole heck of a lot of reading. Some of you have heard me vent about it ;p

I'm feeling good, though. Stressed but good.

Speaking of self promotion, i'm currently working on my applications for grad schools. That means composing a resume and so if any of you have any pointers on that, that'd be great. I've done a few before and more tips are always appreciated :)
